Gecko Factor

The gecko factor show was a huge success in raising more money for the OSCars. We had 12 performances ranging from dancing to beat boxing to singing. Although the audience was not as large as expected, the audience that was there responded very well to the judges and the performance. Due to the rehearsal earlier there were no technological mistakes and the show ran smoothly. Below are some pictures taken by the hired photographer of some of the performers

Mother-Tongue Assembly + Fun with Languages

A couple weeks ago was international mother-tongue appreciation day. Due to my involvement in the mother-tongue literacy service group, we decided to have an assembly for the whole school on this day fit with speeches and performances dedicated to various languages and their importance. The duration of the assembly was about 30 minutes. During these 30 minutes we had a speech, a reading of a german poem, a multicultural song by the primary school, a performance by 2 DP drama students, and finally some interviews. The interviews were conducted by Diana and myself. We spoke to korean, chinese, spanish, sinhalese, and chinese students regarding their mother-tongue and its affect on their life. FUN WITH LANGUAGES

Our service group fun with languages has been very successful so far. We have been able to meet twice already and both times we have worked with the kids to teach them new languages and have fun along the way. We are due to meet every service session until the end of the year. After every meeting we discuss what we have achieved with the primary students that day and come up with ideas for activities for the next session. All the kids seem really eager to learn the languages and their excitement and cooperation helps us with our comfort and our dedication to them and the service group. Below are a couple pictures I took during the two sessions. As leader I am very proud of how far this service group has come since it was created and hopefully we will be able to continue this activity and expand further

ACTION

Since I am not going to be a part of the last sport season at OSC which includes Girls football, Boys basketball and Track and Field, I have decided to add the Gym back into my daily routine. This is the same Gym that I was visiting last year and I have set some fitness and weight loss goals for myself already. Next session I have there I will take some pictures for evidence to upload.

Fun With Languages

Next week will be the first official session of Fun with languages with the following group of primary students:

The activity was only open to grades 3-5 in primary school since we wanted to complete more complex educational activities and as a group felt like younger students would not be able to do that. 

Currently the group is made up of DP2 students as there had been some trouble last semester with the MYP students and their contribution to the group. the languages we currently offer in this group are German, Russian, Sinhalese, Spanish, Dutch, and Japanese. One of the languages the primary students asked for was Italian however there are not many Italian students in our secondary school and those who are there, are already involved in a different service group. 

We hope to be able to strengthen components of these languages and their cultures in these primary students and widen their interest in these other languages hopefully allowing them to memorise certain phrases and or alphabets/numbers 

SGA Gecko Factor

The OSC talent show Gecko Factor will be held in the OSC auditorium at 5:00pm on Saturday the 21st of February. The participants and judges have been chosen and there will be a rehearsal held today after school (Monday the 16th of Feb). During this rehearsal we will go through sound checks, lighting checks, stage set ups and finally the line up. I am helping with the line up back stage making sure the schedule runs by the predicted time and making sure all the participants are back stage and ready to perform when needed.

SGA Bakesale

SAISA GIRLS BASKETBALL BAKESALE:

The SGA held a bake sale during the last day of the Basketball Tournament in order to raise money to have our OSCars at an outside venue. This bake sale was one of the most successful bake sales that the SGA has ever held and raised over 40,000 rupees. Another surprising factor of this was that every single person in the SGA contributed and brought in snacks, as well as some people who are not even part of the SGA, we had an excess amount of food compared to counter space that not everything fit. We sold the following:

Amongst selling most of our food there were three SAISA schools who donated 1000rs each to contribute to our OSCars fundraising. Overall this was a very successful fundraiser and very beneficial to the SGA for our OSCars planning.
